These days the moment you step across Linda Weeks’ front door threshold, there’s laughter and joy along with various toys strewn on the carpet.
All this activity is due to Linda’s recent adoption of Lola, a ten-week-old cockapoo.
Linda and her husband, Rick, had raised two daughters and several family poodles prior to his death in November 2020.
So, to go without the unrestrained joy of a new puppy after the death of their last poodle was not working for Linda, it didn’t take much prompting from her daughter to welcome Lola into her life.
Although Linda and Rick had known each other since first grade growing up in Geneseo, Kansas, she had been born in Nevada, Missouri and had lived in Smith Center, Kansas where her father owned and operated a grocery store and, of course, Linda helped with inventory, making donuts, and anything else delegated to her. Following her parents’ divorce, she moved to Hutchison to live with grandparents who nurtured her in the Nazarene faith and a musical legacy that she still remembers fondly.
After finishing high school and business college with a degree as an executive secretary, Linda developed work experience in various positions and in the aircraft industry of California, eventually returning to Kansas where she and Rick were married on August 11, 1963.
Their fifty-seven years together allowed them opportunities to travel throughout the Ozarks, always taking what Rick called “the scenic route.”
Today, it’s good to share in Linda’s joy of having Lola as her pet companion and the support of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friendships among our community of Kansas Christian Home.
