A Life of Service, Family, and Community at Kansas Christian Home in Newton, Kansas
From Chicago to Kansas: A Journey of Service and Family
Kansas Christian Home (KCH) in Newton, Kansas is proud to share the stories of residents who bring warmth, faith, and resilience to our community. This month’s spotlight shines on Jack and Deb B., a couple whose life journey spans military service, family devotion, and compassionate caregiving.
Jack, originally from Chicago, arrived in Kansas in 1963 after being stationed at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. During his free time, he explored local attractions and soon met Deb, then a high school senior at East Side. Their shared love for skating and miniature golf at Kiddie Land sparked a relationship that led to marriage in 1966.
Together, Jack and Deb raised four children—twin sons who now live in Nebraska and Alabama, a daughter in Bel Aire, Kansas, and their youngest son who lives in Newton. Today, their family has grown into a large circle of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, filling their lives with joy (and a long birthday card list each year!).
A Life of Work and Service in Kansas
After retiring as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, Jack and Deb settled in Peabody, Kansas. Jack worked for more than two decades as a custodian at Peabody High School, where he became a familiar and trusted presence to generations of students.
Deb balanced her role as a homemaker with a deep commitment to caregiving. In the 1970s, she trained at the Peabody Community Living Center and became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Her passion for caring for others even led her to work at Kansas Christian Home—a connection that makes their return to KCH as residents all the more special.
