When you spend time with Don and Marilyn, it quickly feels like their story was always meant to unfold together.
Both Don and Marilyn were born and raised in Wichita, growing up in well-established Wichitan families. Although they attended different high schools—Don at East High and Marilyn at North High—their paths crossed through mutual friends and family connections.
As they each pursued their education and careers, their friendship naturally grew into something more. Don earned a degree in business administration and accounting, while Marilyn followed her passion for teaching with a degree in elementary education.
After a two-and-a-half-year courtship, Don and Marilyn began building a life together—one that has grown into a close-knit family with two daughters, one son, and six grandchildren. Many of their family members now call Newton and other parts of Kansas home.
Before joining our KCH community, Don and Marilyn poured their hearts into restoring and caring for a beautiful multi-story home in Newton. That home holds special meaning for them and is lovingly captured in artwork displayed in their apartment today.
Don’s talent as a woodworker and carpenter continues to surround them, with handcrafted furnishings that reflect both his skill and creativity.
Community involvement has always been important to Don and Marilyn. They actively participate in Meals on Wheels and are involved with Keep Watch, an interdenominational prayer movement dedicated to intentionally praying for children and youth in local schools.
Their story, talents, and commitment to community enrich our campus, and we look forward to getting to know them even better in the days ahead.
