Christine met her husband, Dale Rose, through a roommate while they both were in Connecticut—Christine as a nurse and Dale as a Navy submarine officer. When Dale “left the boat” (retired from Naval service) in July 1977 they moved to Newton. For Dale, who was from Newton, Kansas, it was a journey back home.
Christine was born in Norwalk, Connecticut and acting upon her desire to pursue a career in nursing/caregiving, trained in Middleton, CT. Following their marriage, while living on the naval base, she worked as a Civil Service Navy nurse in many areas. After delaying beginning their own family while Dale was deployed and instructing in serving on nuclear submarines, their three children were born creating the nucleus of their family which has grown and expanded over successive years.
In the late 70s, Christine worked with Central Home Care and Hospice originally under county operation. As she pursued her nursing/care-giving profession, Christine found herself doing something she never thought she’d also do; namely, teach.
Throughout her life and marriage Christine has been blessed with many canine and feline pet companions, the highest highs and deepest lows of loving the creatures and being loved by them. Currently, Rosie, her Bichon Frisé/Japanese Chin mix canine occupies the role of cherished guardian and companion.
One cannot pass by Christine’s home without marveling at the splendid variety and beauty of the potted plantings that wrap around her home. She also extends her gardening talents to her immediate neighbors by assisting with watering and dressing the curbside mailboxes with plant containers.
