Pam Lovato was one of six children (the oldest child, in fact, three girls and three boys) born to her family in Glendale, California and was educated in Vacaville, California (located between Sacramento and San Francisco).
In 1977, before graduating from high school, Pam enlisted in the United States Air Force later completing her studies and receiving her diploma with the aide of GI benefits.
At the time Pam was in military service women were not allowed in hostile zones; in other words, no combat. During those nine years she was assigned as a driver providing transportation to military personnel. She served as the driver for the first African American Four-Star General Daniel “Chappie” James and even experienced riding on Air Force One.
Pam was deployed to Colorado, Montana, Germany, and Wyoming and became a parent of a daughter and son: Laura, who lives in Newton and Joshua residing in Wichita.
When Pam met Don Lovato in Cheyenne, Wyoming, he became the love of her life, a husband who she partnered with in their shared enthusiasm for nature and photography.
Together they went to various venues—county fairs and even four-wheel drive mud races—shooting and developing photos on site as well as offering their completed works for sale.
Upon Don’s death in 2009, Pam lived for a while with her mother in Indiana before eventually deciding to relocate to Kansas to be closer to her daughter and son. That’s how Pam became a resident at Kansas Christian Home.
Entering Pam’s apartment, one sees immediately that she is an avid diamond painter and her walls, windows, and furnishings are adorned with various artworks adding texture, color, and beauty to her living space.
In addition to her family, Pam is grateful for the kind and caring support of our campus staff and the opportunity she has to savor community life. We, in turn, express our gratitude for Pam’s service as a US military veteran and were pleased to honor her along with other veterans residing here at KCH at our November 11th Veteran’s Day Observance.
