Delores was born in Dickinson County near Abilene and Salina on her parent’s family farm that had been worked successfully from the Depression years, raising crops and livestock along with Delores and her brother and two sisters.
Following her high school graduation Delores married Henry who she met through friends. Their family grew with the birth of four children, all except one still living with their families in Kansas.
Travels Delores and Henry took in their camper included even venturing as far north as Alaska where they also helped friends with the construction of their home while taking advantage of a different culture and lifestyle.
In 1973 they bought land in the Whitewater area and eventually enlarged their house to allow elderly parents to live independently with them and enjoy the quality of life and support their family could provide.
At various times Delores worked outside the home in clerical positions. Henry was a lay Baptist preacher and a plumber by trade and worked for Cessna and then at Boeing in Wichita the last seven years before retiring in 1997. Henry passed to life in the Spirit in 2010.
The abiding relation-ship Delores has with Grace Baptist Church in Whitewater continues to this day along with the Source of Light program—a biblically-based non-denominational correspondence course in which she serves as a volunteer “grader” of the lessons participants submit.
After carefully checking out the various adult retirement communities in our area, Delores states how pleased she and her family were to tour our entire campus, compelling her to move to KCH in 2024.
Her appreciation only grows for her new home and the services offered as she enjoys hosting her family for meals in her duplex and continues to develop friendships with other residents while participating in activities at Kansas Christian Home.
