KCH Celebrates Independence Day with Residents, Families, and the Newton Community

July 23, 2026

Kansas Christian Home celebrated Independence Day with another memorable evening of fireworks, summertime treats, and fellowship as approximately 150 people gathered on the KCH campus for our annual Independence Day fireworks show.

Residents from KCH’s Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Long-Term Care communities were joined by family members, friends, and members of the greater Newton community for the celebration. Seeing multiple generations come together to visit, laugh, and enjoy a summer evening is one of our favorite parts of this annual KCH tradition.

Before the fireworks began, KCH served fresh sliced watermelon and popsicles for guests to enjoy. Sno Jonzin’, a family-owned sno cone business, was also on hand preparing free sno cones for everyone in attendance. Their visit was generously sponsored by Phoenix Home Health and Hospice, and we are grateful for their partnership and support in making the evening extra special for our residents and guests.

From Backyard Bash to Fireworks

This year’s fireworks show was made possible thanks to the generosity of those who attended KCH’s Backyard Bash fundraiser in June. Approximately 100 people joined us for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and live music from the Great Plains Jazz Orchestra, and their donations helped KCH raise the funds needed to purchase the fireworks for our Independence Day celebration.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the Backyard Bash. Their generosity allowed KCH residents to enjoy a beloved Independence Day tradition right here at home while also giving their families, friends, and neighbors throughout Newton an opportunity to celebrate alongside them.

As the sun went down, everyone settled in for the highlight of the evening—KCH’s annual fireworks show!

Bringing Generations Together at KCH

Our Independence Day celebration is about more than fireworks. It is one example of KCH’s commitment to creating opportunities for residents to remain connected and engaged with the community around them.

Throughout the year, Kansas Christian Home hosts and participates in a variety of community-based and intergenerational events. From our annual Easter Egg Hunt and Cookies with Santa to Pies & Family Ties and our involvement in the annual Newton Area Senior Resource Fair each spring, we love creating opportunities to bring people of all ages together.

These connections are an important part of life at KCH. When children, families, community members, volunteers, and local organizations spend time on our campus, our residents remain an active part of the greater Newton community—and our community gets to experience the friendships, stories, and wisdom our residents have to share.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Independence Day celebration, to those who supported our Backyard Bash fundraiser, and to the community partners who helped make the evening possible. Your support helps KCH continue creating opportunities for connection, fellowship, and fun for our residents and the greater Newton community.
