At Kansas Christian Home (KCH) in Newton, Kansas, our strength comes from the people who lead with heart, compassion, and vision. One of those leaders is Samantha “Sam” Schaefer, who serves as our Director of Marketing, Senior Living Counselor, and Development Chair. Her unique career journey reflects her dedication to wellness, inclusivity, and creating a thriving community for older adults.

A Career Built on Service and Wellness
Sam began her professional path in the health and fitness industry. In 2009, she became a certified personal trainer and later opened Top Crop Barbell, a sports performance and training facility in Wichita, which she owned and operated from 2013–2019. During that time, she also led a team of nutrition coaches at Profile by Sanford Health.
In 2022, Sam brought her leadership and passion for community well-being to Kansas Christian Home, a nonprofit Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). In her roles at KCH, she focuses on supporting the quality of life for residents while ensuring that accessibility and inclusivity remain at the heart of everything she does.
“In every aspect of what I do at KCH, I aim to advocate for inclusivity and accessibility for seniors in our community.” – Samantha Schaefer
Recognized as a Woman Who Leads in Marketing
This year, Samantha was recognized by the Wichita Business Journal’s “Women Who Lead in Marketing” for her impact not only within the KCH community, but across the greater Wichita area. As KCH’s Director of Marketing, Sam led the organization through a complete rebrand in 2023, ensuring our story and mission are clearly shared with residents, families, and community partners.
She also walks alongside new residents and their families as they make the important decision to choose the care and support provided by the KCH team. Beyond resident support, Samantha has worked to expand KCH’s community presence through in-person events and vibrant social media outreach that highlight the joy, connection, and compassionate care found on our campus.
Now entering her 4th year at KCH, Sam is leading preparations for several cornerstone events:
- The Halloween Walk & Trunk or Treat this October
- The Annual Graceful Giving Day
- The 4th Annual Senior Resource Fair in May 2026
These events reflect the KCH mission of creating opportunities for fellowship, engagement, and community support.
Inspired by Strong Mentors
When asked about her mentors, Sam highlights women who lead boldly and authentically: Mandy Fouse, Danielle Johnson, Marquetta Atkins-Woods, and her close friend Mindy Fox. “As I watch them from a distance, I am constantly inspired by their work ethic, commitment to personal mission, and their unapologetic evolution,” Sam shares.
Advice for Women in Marketing and Senior Living
Sam’s best advice for women pursuing a career in marketing—or in the senior living industry—is to “focus on people, not just platforms.” She emphasizes that the best marketing comes from empathy: learning what people value, what they fear, and what they hope for. With this understanding, adapting to new trends and platforms becomes natural.
The Joy of Serving at Kansas Christian Home
What Sam loves most about her work is being part of a senior living community that balances nonprofit values with excellent care. “Every day I have the pleasure of walking alongside our elders and their families as they navigate the next steps in their golden years,” she says. “Alongside that, I’m surrounded by team members who are also guided by those same principles.”
At Kansas Christian Home, Sam plays an important role in ensuring that residents experience compassionate care, meaningful connections, and the supportive community that makes KCH a trusted senior living option in Newton, Kansas.
Congratulations, Sam, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for all you do!
