At Kansas Christian Home, we believe meaningful conversations don’t stop with age—they deepen. Recently, KCH residents, independent living residents, team members, and members of the greater Newton community gathered for a special event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., led by featured speaker Rev. Larry Lee of Newton, Kansas.
Rev. Lee, a respected community leader involved in multiple non-profits and ministerial alliances, guided attendees through powerful storytelling that brought history to life while connecting Dr. King’s message to the world we live in today. Rather than focusing solely on dates and speeches, Rev. Lee invited participants to reflect on the human side of the Civil Rights Movement—faith, perseverance, courage, and the ongoing call to love one another well.
The event created space for learning, listening, and thoughtful discussion. Residents and community members alike were encouraged to consider how Dr. King’s words and actions still challenge us to pursue justice, unity, and compassion in everyday life. The room was filled with shared memories, meaningful questions, and a collective desire to better understand one another.
What made this gathering especially impactful was the diversity of voices present—longtime KCH residents, independent living neighbors, staff members, and local community participants all learning side by side. This intergenerational and community-centered approach reflects KCH’s commitment to lifelong learning and inclusive experiences that nourish the mind and spirit.
Events like this remind us that senior living is about more than care—it’s about connection, growth, and honoring stories that shape who we are. We are grateful to Rev. Larry Lee for sharing his time, wisdom, and heart, and to everyone who joined us for this meaningful moment of reflection.
At KCH, we are proud to create spaces where history is honored, voices are heard, and community continues to grow.
