Kansas Christian Home (KCH) welcomed families to our campus for the annual Halloween Walk & Trunk or Treat. Held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the celebration brought children and residents together for a favorite fall tradition.

Bringing Children and Elders Together
A costume can spark a conversation, and a familiar holiday can invite a story about celebrations years ago. Those exchanges matter. As K-State Extension explains, relationships with older adults can help children develop life skills and understand different perspectives, while also helping reduce loneliness and supporting happiness among elders. Halloween offers an easy starting point: a shared tradition and a chance to get to know a neighbor.

Making Connections Throughout the Year at KCH
At KCH, these opportunities extend beyond October. Our annual Easter Egg Hunt, Cookies with Santa, Pies & Family Ties, and Independence Day celebration welcome families throughout the year. Local school visits also give residents an active role as hosts.
For Easter in 2025, about 70 kindergarten through fourth-grade students from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Newton visited for an egg hunt, relay races, and refreshments. Independent living residents decorated and hid eggs and served refreshments. Kindergarten students later sent handwritten thank-you cards—a thoughtful follow-up to their visit.
That spring, residents in our long-term care community prepared Easter goodie bags for three kindergarten classes from neighboring Slate Creek Elementary School. Activities like these give elders opportunities to contribute and children a chance to learn from them.
Thank You for Being Part of the KCH Community
Thank you to the families, residents, and team members who helped make our 2026 Halloween Walk & Trunk or Treat possible. We are grateful you shared the evening with us!
