Ledean was born in Burwell, Nebraska, and lived on a small farm until his parents moved to take teaching positions. His dad was a Superintendent of schools and his mom taught K-12 in one-room country schools. In high school, Ledean played football, basketball, and track.

Carolyn was also born in Burwell and her parents were ranchers. Growing up on a ranch, she spent many hours in the saddle driving cattle and working in the hayfield. Their parents knew each other, so Ledean and Carolyn have known each other since early childhood. Ledean graduated from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota with a bachelor of science in business. After joining the Army National Guard, he started a career in banking and insurance. After moving to Kansas, he worked at Farmers Alliance Insurance in McPherson in Commercial Underwriting and VP of Fidelity and Surety Bonds. After retirement, he kept busy with remodeling and building projects and worked part-time at Midland Bank and Graber’s ACE hardware. His favorite past time now is golfing.
After nurses’ training, Carolyn worked in hospitals, nursing homes and a doctor’s office. When they moved to Kansas, she worked as a staff assistant in the Newton High School vocational department and then at Youthville in Human Resources and payroll.
Together they raised two children, Mona and Jason. Jason and his wife are the parents of their five grandchildren who live on a “hobby” farm with many animals. “We love supporting our family participations at their church, and in music and sports events.”
Carolyn enjoys Bible Study classes and reading about different topics and passions of interest.
Prior to coming to Kansas, between the two of them they served at their local church as Awana Commander and Leader, social studies teacher, youth leaders, nurse, and counselor at summer camps. Carolyn was a church secretary and organist while Ledean served on the church elder board. Now they attend Grace Community Church and participate in their local activities.
